1.  Your Challenge

          A. Introduction

The new girl Maria in your class has just moved to your home state of Maine, from New Mexico. This is the first time she has ever seen the ocean and she is so excited!! You invite her to your house to go swimming in the tidal pools and tidal areas behind your house.  While you are swimming you look over and see a Great Blue Heron wading in the shallow water.  You have seen them all the time, but Maria gets scared of the bird that she has never seen before, and refuses to go back into the water. She also said she will never go over to your house to go swimming again.

         B. The Challenge

To be able to convince Maria to come back over to your house to go swimming again, you decide to make her a big poster to teach her all about a Great Blue Heron.  Do research on the Internet to find information about the size, shape, colors and nesting habits of the bird.  Also discover other interesting facts about its habitat, what it eats, and what eats it!  Then make the poster to give her to so she can hang it in her room at home. This will help her understand more about the bird, so she will come swimming with you again.  Make sure you include drawings, pictures and all the information ON the poster!!
