1. Your Challenge:

A. Hello Little Historians! Here's your chance to become experts on Vermont's covered bridges! There is so much to learn about them! Vermont might not have the most covered bridges in the United States but it is most known for the over 100 beautiful covered bridges it has all around the state. Have fun!


B. Go through each part of the webquest and click on the websites that are highlighted dark blue and underlined (they start with http://www). Each section will take you to a new level of learning all about Vermont's covered bridges! On your handout sheet, answer the questions that are being asked of you at each part of this webquest. This will help you learn all you can and remember it later!

2. Your Journey:

A. Learn about Covered Bridges

Click on these websites to find out about covered bridges. Answer the questions on your covered bridges
worksheet.


1) Go to  http://www.vtonly.com/brdgcovr.htm. On a seperate sheet of paper, write 2-3 sentences about what some of the wives' tales are on why  people used to cover bridges.

2) Think about, and write down why you think we don't have as much of a use for covered bridges now.

3) What are Kissing Bridges? Find out at http://www.vtonly.com/lorejun7.htm and write your answer on your covered bridge worksheet.

B. Covered Bridge Scavenger Hunt
Using the Virtual Tour of the covered bridges around the area at http://www.virtualvermont.com/coveredbridge/,  find the following bridges and answer each question below.
             
              Find these bridges:
                       Pulpmill Bridge
                       Gates Farm Bridge
                       Stowe Hollow (aka Emily's Bridge)
                       Fisher Bridge
                       Lord's Creek Bridge
                       Creamery Bridge

             Answer these questions:
                  1) What town is the bridge in?
                      2) What county is the bridge in?
                      3) What bridges are close by (in the same town or the closest town)?
                      4) What body of water is the bridge over, or what road is it on?
