Five Senses

A WebQuest created by Sara Wright

What does popcorn smell like?
What does a snowflake look like?
What does a kitten feel like?
What does your favorite song sound like?
What does chocolate cake taste like?
These are some questions you are able to answer by using your five senses!

Welcome to the world of senses! The five senses are smell, sight, touch, hearing, and taste. We are going to take a journey to discover how we can use all five of our senses. We will explore how these are necessary for people to function in their every day lives. You will be asked to link to other web sites and try to find and use your senses. Good Luck!

Smell

We smell with our noses. We have special nerves in our noses to help us smell. We use our noses to get       information. Some smells are good and some smells are bad. Smelling can alert us to danger.
Use the following website to find out about some very distinctive smells.

Sight

We see with our eyes. Sight is the result of light entering the eye and being processed in the brain. We need light to see. Two eyes help us locate things. Seeing helps us learn. Some people see differently. Eyes can trick us.
Go to the following website and look at the pictures...Write down what you see. This may be tricky!

Touch

We feel with our skin. Our skin has nerves in it which help us feel. We find out about objects by feeling similarities and differences. We feel different sensations. There are words that tell us how things feel. There are some dangerous things that we should never touch. Sometimes we use touch to tell people how we feel. How many touch receptors on your fingertips?

Hearing

We hear with our ears. Sound comes from air vibrations. We need air to hear. We have two ears to help us locate things in space. Listening helps us learn. Sounds can make us have certain feelings. Sounds can give us pictures in our head to help us identify things. Some people hear differently.
Name three parts of the ear.

Taste

We taste with our tongues. The tasting parts of our tongue are called taste buds. We need moisture to taste. Our sense of smell helps us taste foods more clearly. The mouth has other uses.
Use this website to find out what the four tastes are.
