The UVM Outing Club, founded in 1932, provides the UVM community not only with wilderness trips for all the seasons, as well as backcountry rental equipment and technical skill instruction. [1] The structure first appeared in 1906, as a stable, and continued as such until 1926 when it becomes a private garage. [2] In 1942, it appeared on a Sanborn map marked as a lab with an automobile in the basement. [3] In 1960, the structure, while still marked as a lab, was shown as having expanded to its current size. [4] A 1978 map showed the structure as being a lab, yet in 1976, the Outing Club moved in so as to house the club’s library, offices, equipment, and workshops. [5] It is unclear what the exact situation was at that time, but perhaps the two were sharing the space. Currently, the Outing Club remains at its 1976 location, 8 Colchester Avenue.
