A hypertext system is a collection of documents or nodes connected by links.
A node is simply a discrete unit of text, graphics, sound, or video.
A link is a connection between nodes. It is put in by a human as a pathway for the reader's exploration; thus it is part of the actual document, part of the writing.
Within each node, there may be links to other nodes.
