VETC Board Web Policies
- The VETC Web server is the property of the Vermont Educational
Telecommunications Consortium (VETC) and its use is governed by the
rules established by the VETC Board of Directors. As a developing project,
changes to those rules will be an ongoing process.
- VETC makes web server access available to schools who
request it and who send representatives to training sessions.
- Vermont State Colleges, while providing system administrative
support for the VETC server, has no responsibility for the accuracy and
suitability of information published on the VETC Web server.
- Each school is responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of the
information it displays on its web pages.
- The VETC Board of Directors reserves the right to remove any school's
web pages for any reason.
- At present, VETC will not provide support for school-created CGI
routines.
- All users of the VETC Web server are asked to avoid unnecessary
bandwidth consumption. Excessive use of image or other large files is
discouraged.
- School web site managers will create and test html and other web
files on their desktop machines and the ftp those files to the school
account on the VETC Web server.
- Backup process will be provided on a weekly basis. It is intended to
secure the server as a whole, not to retrieve a file inadvertently deleted.
We assume that copies of html and other files will be retained on the
desktop machine where they were created.
- We encourage the development of personal and school pages by the
faculty, staff, and students of member schools and provide instructions on how to create them.
- There is no enforced standard for the look and feel of the pages;
however, you may wish to consider these notes on style and design from
the
University of Indiana, Bloomington.
- An e-mail discussion group exists to discuss issues related to
technical issues and the practice and theory of WWW. This group is located
at VETC-WEB@list.uvm.edu
