VETC 1996 Summer Institute on Telecommunications

Application Deadline: June 1, 1996

The Vermont Educational Telecommunications Consortium seeks applications from the Vermont K-12 educational community to attend VETC's Professional Development Summer Institute 1996, World Wide Web School Integration Program. The Summer Institute will prov ide educators with a chance to explore and learn how to use World Wide Web resources, create home pages for their educational community and to use telecommunications to restructure existing curriculum or present educational practices.

Summer Institute '96:

No fee to attend. VETC will provide instruction, a private room and board at college dormitory.
Each applicant will have access to one work station in a lab of networked PC compatible computers. (All information presented is relevant to Macintosh users as well.) Each workstation will have a direct connection to the Internet.
Applicants will learn how to develop a web site using Hypertext Markup Language. VETC will provide space to publish and maintain web site for each educational community.

When and Where:

Three sessions are available: Each session is four days (three nights), Monday - Thursday, as follows:

July 15-18	Vermont College of Norwich University (Montpelier) Instructors: Hope Greenberg, Steven Webster (Sandy Lathem assisting)
July 29 - August 1	Castleton State College (Castleton) Instructors: Charlie Wilson, Peter Anderson (Sandy Lathem assisting)
August 12-15	Vermont College of Norwich University (Montpelier) Instructors: Gregg Martin, Steven Webster (Gail Poitras assisting)

Applicants Agree:

To create and maintain a web site for their educational community during the 1996-1997 school year.
To work with students to develop the web site and to integrate student work in the site.
To demonstrate their web site to their local educational community.

Prerequisites to Attend:

Applicants must have a basic understanding of computer concepts, word processing and file management.
Applicants must have Internet access (either dial up modem or direct connection) at educational community by September, 1996.
Applicants must bring to the Institute samples of school photos, logos, student work, community information and any other information useful to developing the web site.
Applications will be accepted only for pairs of learners (2 person teams) from your educational community.
Team composition may include non-classroom and school based community members as well as educators, school board members, educational assistants and administrators.

Registration:

Each institute will be limited to 20 people (or 10 teams). Priority will be given to geographical distribution (using VISMT regions) and date of application.
Registration deadline is June 1, 1996. Notification of acceptance to institutes will be mailed by June 12th.
