Says Ron Krupp, “Woodchuck gardeners stand for thrift, practicality, and a connection to the earth and the cosmos. Growing vegetables, flowers, and fruits in colder climates takes ingenuity, patience, and a sense of humor because no one ever knows what the weather will be up to. This way of doing things not only represents a method but also a way of viewing life. Woodchuck gardeners like to say, ‘Keep it simple,’ It depends,’ and ‘If it’s not one thing it’s another. ’They are folks, young and old, who practice common sense organic gardening.” Ron has been involved in the organic movement in Vermont since 1969.
He started the Brattleboro Farmers' Market in 1972, was a commercial grower for ten years, started the Vermont Small Farm Project at UVM in 1980 and was the editor of The Green Mountain Farmer in 1981. Ron has been a coordinator at the Tommy Thompson Community Garden in the Intervale for the past 17 years. His garden book received the Christian Science Monitor award in 2002 as the - Garden Book of the Year. The book
is now in its seventh printing.
