Shanley Triggs is a native Vermonter. She was born in Burlington, and grew up in Milton, Vermont on a dairy farm, the youngest of seven children. She was an English major in college, taught school for six years and was a secretary for ten before she discovered a talent for art. She has been painting in watercolor for 20 years and has won awards for her work. A self-taught artist, she paints meaningful subject matter from the heart that is rendered to give beauty to the world.

Shan has participated in Vermont Week at the Vermont Studio School in Johnson, Vermont and has taken a series of art classes. There were two painter-instructors who truly inspired Shan and she feels encouraged her in her efforts - the late Vermont artist, Barbara Smail and Vermont artist, Barbara Wagner. Shan feels very fortunate to have had their combined instruction as well as their different viewpoints as her initial introduction to watercolor.
