Paul's Greenland Ramblings

Paul's Greenland Ramblings

Greenland is an amazing place. I'm not usually one for journaling in the field outside my geologic notes but something about this landscape and its people made me want to write. Perhaps it was a need to comprehend the enormity of it all or its fragility? So, here are my daily ramblings. There's some science but mostly just me trying to make sense of a place really, really different than where I live day to day. Greenland was a wonderful place to be, and work, and hike, and live. I miss it already.

Day 1 - It's hot in Schenectady and hot in Greenland
Day 2 - We are in Greenland
Day 3 - At the ice margin
Day 4 - The Lake that isn't anymore
Day 5 - Unpacking, repacking, unpacking, repacking again
Day 6 - Flying far away
Day 7 - Helo sampling (Take 1)
Day 8 - Helo sampling (Take 2)
Day 9 - Getting it all together
Day 10 - Leaving Upernavik
Day 11 - The last, wildest ride
Day 12 - Hiking for the last samples
Day 13 - Sled dogs and cell phones
