- Teachers Who Write 2014 on Friday, May 2nd. Please read the message below from VCTELA President, Matt Schlein:
Dear VCTELA Members:
Hope this e-mail finds you well. There are a number of exciting changes going on with the Vermont Council of Teachers of English Language Arts that I want to pass along to you.
For starters, we are excited to say that our Spring Teachers Who Write Conference is going to be overhauled. While it will be still held the first Friday in May, we are changing the location and the format of the day. We will be moving from our previous haunts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts to Camp Common Ground in Starksboro. The beautiful campus will be conducive to the writers workshop approach we hope to pilot for the first time. Teachers will get a chance to pick a genre and work with a small group of fellow teachers/writers and a group leader to create and workshop original work. We anticipate the day allowing teachers to revisit and recharge their own writing practice, in the company of writers and teachers with similar concerns and interests. The fee for the day will be $80 and include breakfast, lunch, VCTELA dues, and all other fees related to the conference. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE, FRIDAY, MAY 2.
A registration form will be available mid-March.
For those of you missing the format of our traditional Spring conference, I am happy to say that we will be joining forces with the Green Mountain Writing Project in the Fall for an event that will have an inspiring keynote with relevant break-out sessions. As always, the focus of the conference will be on the joy and importance of writing as a way of catalyzing and refining student engagement.
Anyone interested in joining our planning committee or making suggestions on how we can better support and serve you, please do not hesitate to be in touch. We look forward to seeing you at these events.
