GreenHouse Residential Learning Community

GreenHouse Villages

A Village in GreenHouse is defined as a group of 16-20 students whose rooms are geographically located in a hallway segment of University Heights South. The main purpose of the villages is community. Over 250 students live in GreenHouse, so each village is a nested community inside of the larger GreenHouse community.

The main functions of villages are:

  • To create small, nested communities of 16-20 students inside the larger GreenHouse in which returning UVM students and first-year students learn and live together.

  • To provide some sort of service to the GreenHouse, UVM, or Burlington community during each semester. The type of service and logistics are all determined by each individual village.

  • To provide space for students to practice initiating and planning events, to organize a group of fellow students to create and implement a service project, and to explore non-academic environmental interests with a group of their peers.
