GEOGRAPHY CLUB MISSION
MISSION:
The UVM Geography Club will provide advice to,
camaraderie
between, and an academic outlet outside the classroom for students at UVM
who are interested in geography as a discipline, a career, or to heighten
their own knowledge. The Club will extend our efforts geographically and
academically to provide to the UVM community a better sense and
understanding of Geography as a discipline and the importance which
geography has played throughout history, since the dawn of time. The Club
was founded with these intentions in mind.
"Geography is a representation of the whole known world together with
the phenomena which are contained therein."
-Ptolemy, Geographia
GOALS:
(taken from Article II Section B of the
constitution.)
1.) Increase Student involvement in departmental activities and
concerns.
2.) Provide counseling for those interested in either furthering their
geographic studies or initially engaging the field of geography.
3.) Increase recognition and camaraderie amongst geography
undergraduates.
4.) Enhance and highlight the unique geographical experiences of UVM,
Burlington, Vermont, and the surrounding region.
SGA RECOGNITION:
The fact that everything is related to its geography underlines the
importance of geography as a discipline. By recognizing the UVM Geography
Club, the SGA helps promote the study of geography on the UVM campus and
in the Burlington area. This would happen through expanding the club's
ability to bring speakers on campus, travel to Geography conferences,
encouraging camaraderie between geography majors and minors, and extend
the Geography Department's knowledge and learning to the campus at large
out side of the classroom.
