The GCRC supports clinical and patient-oriented research projects performed by investigators at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care. The CReFF program awards up to five one-year grants for up to $20k each to support well-conceived pilot studies designed to lead to extramural funding. These awards are intended to be used to supplement the use of normal GCRC facilities and services by allowing purchases in categories normally not allowable to regular GCRC users (e.g. small equipment, technical help, subject compensation). These funds therefore represent a novel mechanism for funding individual investigators that is distinct from normal GCRC funds, specifically ear-marked for routine infrastructure support.
