Edwin Owre:

Brenda and Other Works

February 28 – April 1, 2018
European/American Gallery

Pioneering sculptor Edwin Owre was on the art faculty of the University of Vermont teaching drawing and sculpture from 1969 to 2003. His experimental approach to materials and the blending of different media have made him an enduring presence in contemporary art for five decades. Owre has had four solo exhibitions at the Fleming Museum of Art—in 1966, 1969, 1978, and 1990.

In association with the current exhibition Edwin Owre: New Constructions at Burlington City Arts, this mini-exhibit features works by Owre from the Fleming Museum’s permanent collection. A highlight is the large sculpture Brenda (1966), along with small sculptures from his Tube series, and drawings and prints that Owre produced as posters and postcards for his Fleming exhibitions. These provide just a taste of this artist’s boundless creative energies.
