Two Artist’s Books by Barbara Bloom with text by Susan Tallman

April 4 – May 21, 2017
European and American Gallery

Artist Barbara Bloom enlisted renowned print scholar Susan Tallman to contribute text to two artist’s books, which will be on view in the European and American Gallery of the Fleming Museum of Art from April 4 to May 21, 2017. In The Collections of Barbara Bloom, the artist turns the idea of a retrospective on its head, gathering together images of her multimedia installations as well as objects from her vast personal collections, complete with commentary by Tallman. In Gifts, Bloom explores the nature of gifts through an unconventional format: eight different giftwrap papers designed by the artist, which come wrapped in a linen box along with a book, in which Tallman provides context for the designs. This exhibition is supported by the Mollie Ruprecht Fund for Visual Arts.

Barbara Bloom and Susan Tallman will speak about their work on Wednesday, April 5th at 5:10 pm, at Williams Hall, Room 301, at the University of Vermont. The lecture is organized by the Department of Art and Art History and supported by the Mollie Ruprecht Fund for Visual Arts.
