Our method improves on the current NRCS method by ranking agricultural fields based on their nonpoint source pollution potential and identifying portions of those fields that are protected by existing buffers, providing a valuable tool for water quality management.
The Relative ranking of nonpoint source pollution potential for agricultural fields based on their RUSLE values is on the left, while those portions of agricultural fields that are protected by existing buffers is on the right. The importance of taking into account the areas buffered by existing riparian buffers is evident since many of the fields with high nonpoint source potential are well buffered.
