E. coli standards comparisons:  SUMMARY OF VIOLATIONS

A comparison of violations for the three water quality standards are summarized in the figure below.  The number of violations is highest for the current standard and lowest for the EPA standard.  The number of total violations of single sample maximum is reduced from 64 (of 402 samples) for the current Vermont standard to 40 for the alternative standard and 31 for the EPA recommended standard.  Similarly, total violations of the geometric mean standard is reduced from 11 for the alternative standard to 5 for the EPA standard.  The number of sites in violation of the single sample maximum decreases from 15 (of 15 sites) for the current Vermont standard to 11 for the alternative standard and to 9 for the EPA standard.  The number of sites in violation of the geometric mean standard decreases from 7 (of 15 sites) for the alternative standard to 3 for the EPA standard.
