Baseline E. coli Concentrations

Control sites in undeveloped watersheds provide information regarding baseline concentrations of E. coli which can be used in comparison to sites in developed watersheds. Sampling sites located on Stetson Brook (6) and Austin Brook tributary (7), both in the Green Mountain National Forest, serve as control sites since there is no development within these drainage areas.  As such, the E. coli concentrations at these sites would probably be due to wildlife sources. E. coli concentrations were consistently low at these sites with the exception of site 7 on 8/11/98.  For all samples except 8/11, the mean E. coli for site 6 was 13 +/- 13 S.D. (n=26).  The mean E. coli for site 7 was 10 +/-14 S.D. (n=26).
