Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide an integrative tool which brings together diverse types of data, all sharing a location on the Earth. By combining data with their geographic location, new and innovative analyses can provide unique insights into environmental issues. The application of GIS to natural resources, in particular, provides answers to critical resource issues of our time. An understanding of GIS and working knowledge of ArcGIS (the premier GIS software package) will provide students, professionals, and educators with the tools necessary to meet the challenges they will face in the real world.
