Sprawl is the greatest and most visible threat to the sustainability of Vermonts communities. Sprawl delivers a "double whammy," simultaneously sucking the economic lifeblood of existing downtowns and village centers, while eliminating open space and agricultural land. Sprawl heightens our dependency on the automobile, causes congestion, and promotes disinvestment in older communities.
