Prospective Graduate Students

If you are interested in joining my group as a graduate student, please check the section on
Current Opportunities for Graduate Study, below, so you can see when I would be able to accept new applicants. Funding for graduate students is necessary for a successful experience, and my policy is to only accept students that I can fund or that have their own funding.  Before starting contact, I would ask you to carefully go over my research program webpage, and read the selected publications listed at the end of this page.  This will give you a good idea of what kind of work I do, and help you decide if I am the advisor that best suits your needs.

Our group has a strong interdisciplinary focus, so I will usually recruit graduate student with an interest in integrating social and ecological science in their research.  In addition, I use a Participatory Action Research Approach (PAR) in most of my research and teaching.  A strong interest in PAR is also desirable.

I like to support my graduate students, to the best of my ability, in fulfilling both their academic and personal goals.  I believe in providing time and guidance, but also encourage independence and personal iniative.  Please feel free to contact some of my other graduate students (see People page) to get more feedback on my advising style and how our lab works.   A desire to work in a team is a must !

Current Opportunities for Graduate Study
I will not be taking any new graduate students until Fall 2011.  .
