Várzea

The varzea are located throughout the Amazon Basin.
WWF and National Geographic offer a website called WildWorld, which maps where each of the várzea are. Follow the steps below.
1) Click on the WWF link
above.
2) Click on an individual ecosystem.
3) At the top of the
screen, click the link "see the map."
4) This will bring you to an
extremely zoomed in map of that ecosystem. Zoom out enough, and you should be
able to
see most of the Amazon Basin in the map.
5) Each várzea is coded.
Gurupa = NT0126 (from the mouth of the Tapajós River to the Xingu River, near the mouth of the
Amazon)
Iquitos
= NT0128 (located in Peru, Bolivia, and part
of Brazil)
Marajó
= NT0138 (located at the mouth of the Amazon)
Monte Alegre = NT0141 (central and lower Amazon)
Purus
= NT0156 (central Amazon)
Although this map doesn't have great detail, it does give an idea of where the várzea are located in relation to each other.
