group, comprised of students dedicated to strengthening the University
of Vermont and Burlington community and representing the complexity of
our individuality at the University of Vermont. We invite you to learn

perspectives, experiences and voice.
Mission Statement
The Exploring Discrimination and Bias Conference was created with the
purpose of fostering solidarity and to bring awareness of the
pervasiveness and self-perpetuation of bias and
discrimination. At the university level and in the greater
community though advocacy, dialogue, education and community building.
The Exploring Discrimination and Bias Conference promotes understanding
and respect among all identities, such identities would include race,
religion, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status through
the common purpose of cultivating community and inclusiveness.
History
The first annual Exploring Discrimination and Bias Conference took
place on March 19, 2011 in the Dudley H. Davis Center. The conference was
envisioned by undergraduate students at the University of Vermont and
is completely student run. The goal of the conference and its committee
is to identify, recognize, and discuss issues of discrimination and
bias across all identities and abilities. The confernce's vision is a community
where students, faculty, and members of the greater UVM and Burlington
community are empowered and engaged and are aware. A community that no
longer has bystanders but has advocates that stand by, a community that has a voice
of understanding and respect even when times are tough for the common
purpose of maintaining their community.
