Elementary Education Program

Elementary Education majors engage in a challenging and enriching program that links professional course work with practical classroom experience in area schools.

UVM’s Elementary Education Program prepares teachers for positions in grades K through six.  You can declare your intent to be an Elementary Education major at the time you apply to UVM.  In the first two years, you will be enrolled in pre professional courses related to professional practice, learning individual differences among students and diversity.  Then you will apply to the professional course sequence which involves field placements where you have the opportunity to engage in planning and implementation of methods and strategies to teach students in grades K through six.  The program is approved by the Vermont State Department of Education, which has reciprocity with many states and the District of Columbia and is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
