Elementary Education

Teaching Students in the Elementary Grades might be just the right place for you to begin your professional career!

Elementary Education students are in their formative years, learning how to read and write, discovering the wonders of Science and Social Studies and using Math in their own lives. They begin to work with technology and apply their skills in a variety of ways.

You can become an essential part of this exciting time for elementary students in Grades K-6. The journey is both rewarding and inspirational. The Elementary Education Program at the University of Vermont will prepare you to teach all children as they prepare for life.

Interested in a Dual Endorsement in Special Education?

Many of our elementary education candidates might choose to pursue a Special Education minor with a dual endorsement option.

Hallmarks of Dual Endorsement Program:

  • 18 additional credits in special education through the special education minor
  • The minor with a dual endorsement (21 credits) option enables elementary education students to receive an additional license to work as a special educator.
    • Year long internship in a local school
    • Supervision by a licensed special educator and an elementary education faculty
    • Collaboration with a team of professionals that includes special educators, ELL specialists, general education teachers, administrators and para-educators.
  • Invaluable preparation for a teaching profession that is becoming increasingly inclusive of all students in the classroom.
  • High job placement rate
