“We are now at a point where we must educate our children in what no one knew yesterday, and prepare our schools for what no one knows yet.” --Margaret Mead
Welcome to the UVM Department of Education
To be a local, national, and international leader in generating new knowledge and preparing professional educators who make a difference in the lives of children, youth, families, and communities.
To produce and share high quality research and scholarship and to prepare reflective students for the work of transforming educational settings, school systems, and communities. To this end, our teaching, research, and service seek to foster a more just and humane society.
The UVM Department of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, and special education. Our faculty and staff work enthusiastically with school partners to nurture students who want to make a positive difference in the life of every single learner who arrives - ready or not - at the classroom door. Our research-based programs provide students with the salient skills and dispositions needed to make a difference in a child's life. Imagination, respect, intelligence, persistence, knowledge, and vision are the requisite strengths of exceptional leadership sensitivities and skills to work collaboratively and successfully to create solutions for the array of challenges our schools face every day.
