Davis Center Operations leadership team - 2009-2010 AFS Best Sustainability Award by an Individual or Team for its work to educate Davis Center occupants, the campus community, and visitors about how the Davis Center goes beyond being a LEED Gold building to fully realizing the possibilities of being a world-class environmental steward.

Individual Honors
Stephanie Dion, Director of the Administrative Business Service Center, has been chosen as one of UVM's two representatives for the 2012-2013 HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration at Wellesley College.
Leslye Kornegay, Director of Custodial Services, was awarded the designation of Master Registered Executive Housekeeper by the International Executive Housekeepers Association on October 18, 2011. The Master REH is the highest designation awarded by the IEHA.
Barbara Goldsen, Business Manager for Custodial Services, obtained a Professional Business Certificate in Leadership and Management in January 2011 after completing 67.5 hours of coursework over 7 weeks.
Luce Hillman, P.E., Project Manager in the Physical Plant Department, is the co-author of "Truly Green: A Look at the Advantages of Maintaining Historic Buildings," which appears in the November/December 2010 issue of Facilities Manager magazine.
Mary Dewey, Director of Risk Management & Safety, has been elected President of the Vermont Risk Retention Group, also known as the Pinnacle Consortium, and as Vice President of Pinnacle's parent company, Genesis Limited, for 2011 and 2012. Genesis is a highly selective higher education insurance captive owned jointly by Brown University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, University of Delaware, George Washington University, Howard University, John Hopkins University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, RPI, Rutgers, Temple University, Tufts University, Washington University, and the University of Vermont.
Joel Shapiro, HRS Director of Organizational Services, was honored by acceptance into membership of the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Sciences in July, 2010. Much of the theory and practice that presently underlies the professional field of organization development was created and has been taught around the world by NTL members. Joel previously received his training and certification in Organizational Development from NTL (National Training Laboratory). Founded in 1947, NTL Institute is a not-for-profit international association whose purpose is to provide training, learning, and consultations to individuals and organizations around the world. Their mission is to advance the field of applied behavioral sciences and to develop change agents for effective leadership for organizations.
Chris Sanford from the Events Crew of Conferences and Event Services was awarded the 2009-2010 AFS award for Best Customer Service by an Individual for his attention to detail, commitment to quality, and investment in building positive relationships with the people with whom he works.
Brian Medor, Brian Hodge and Jeff Rogers of the Environmental Safety HAZMAT Technician Team were awarded the 2009-2010 AFS award for Best Customer Service by a Team for their focus on proactively meeting customer needs, innovative programs to negotiate return-to-manufacturer programs for gas cylinders, recycling lithium, and Ni-Cad batteries (which has saved UVM over $11,000 this year), and work in developing a shared long-haul waste transportation program with a local business.
Joe Church, Luce Hillman, Russell Charon, Roland Dion, Gary Campagna, and Terry Robbins of the Physical Plant Zone Maintenance Implementation Team were awarded the 2009-2010 AFS Mary L. Scully Best Customer Service Process Improvement Award for moving from stand-alone craft shops to a new service delivery model that serves the entire campus through five multi-disciplinary zones, allowing the unit’s maintenance and operating staff to be closer to the buildings, equipment, and the customers they serve and resulting in quicker response, better coordination, improved ownership and stewardship, and less of a demand for vehicles.
Steve Sweet from Conferences and Event Services was awarded the 2009-2010 AFS Best Diversity Award by an Individual or Team for his commitments to hiring a highly diverse summer conference housing staff, his work with men’s issues in a collegiate environment, and work with the Summer Bridge Program to ensure a seamless transition for the many new students arriving from China.
Catherine Hazen, Brendan Andrews, and Robert Sentry from the UVM Bookstore were awarded the 2009-2010 AFS See the Need, Take the Lead Award for their work in quickly designing, implementing, and launching an updated retail website that was easier to navigate, had a much expanded product line, and could be updated without hassle when new products arrived. The results yielded a 71% increase in sales and a near doubling of the items sold during the holiday season. The Athletic department was so impressed that they have decided to discontinue their relationship with an off-campus web store and transfer the ownership of the URL for CatamountStore.com to the Bookstore.

for Finance & Administration, has been chosen as one of UVM's
two
representatives for the 2010-2011 HERS Institute for Women in Higher
Education Administration at Wellesley College.
Leslye Kornegay, Director of Custodial Services, and Barbara L. Johnson, Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services were inducted into Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society for the Social Sciences, in May 2010.
Bill Ballard, Associate Vice President for Administrative & Facilities Services, was named "Collegiate EMS Adviser of the Year" for the 2009-2010 academic year by the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation for his service as UVM Rescue faculty adviser.
