Gundelach Osmo Regeneration
The hollow paladium wire in the picture was heated with an alchohol flame. The hydrogen in the flame then duffused through the paladium and into the tube, re- pressurizing it. This process, called osmo (short for osmosis) regeneration, was developed in 1897. This was an important development as the gas tubes would run only for short periods of time before the pressure rose the the point where x-ray gneration stopped.
