The cast iron pier that supports the telescope mount.
	The clock is mounted at the top of the pier, two doors with windows are on either side for access to the clock.
	A solid door near the base of the pier provides access for adding weights to the clock.
	A brass knob 3/4 of the way up the pier seems to function as an on/off switch for the illuminator. It also has a rod attached to the back that may have functioned as an on/off switch for the clock drive as well.
