As part of the Rubenstein School Climate Initiative, we have begun to track faculty and student flights. A fund has been established to offset the impact of these trips. Its purpose is to support locally-based energy efficiency, renewable energy, and carbon sequestration initiatives.

Air travel has significant climate impacts; a single, round trip cross country flight releases the same carbon dioxide (and CO2 equivalents) as burning over 200 gallons of gasoline, per passenger.
