Marla’s blood red hair and piercing green eyes highlight the paleness of her skin, but she is still a very attractive woman. She dresses in fine clothing and can often be found in major cities across Blackwood, using her dominate ability to get herself invited to high-class parties where she can feed on the blood of aristocrats.

While she acts as though she knows everything about herself, Marla doesn’t remember anything from before age 18. She was found half-drowned near some city docks and taken in by the church of Iomedae. After spending days on death’s door, she awoke without any of her memories. Marla didn’t even remember her own name – the name she finally took was in honor of a kind priestess of Iomedae who died of old age not long after she recovered. The care given to a complete stranger by the priests encouraged Marla to pursue the life of a priest as well. Within a few years she harnessed the divine energy of Iomedae and became an adventurer.

Marla hoped to gain some insight to her past or to at least gain a direction for her future through her adventures. While she began working her way toward a happy life, her adventuring career ended poorly. She fell in love with an elven adventurer named Adraes Nightstrike and joined him in his travels, but fell in battle against a vampire named Lucas Starlos. Lucas slaughtered all of Marla’s party except for Adraes, whose memories he altered in order to fake his own death. Marla was then raised as a vampire under Lucan’s control. She forsook Iomedae’s religion and chose to worship Asmodeus, embracing that darkness in place of her past, and has traveled with Lucas ever since.

For the most part, Lucas gives Marla free reign over her activities. The one stipulation is that she must keep her existence quiet, lest she invite trouble in the form of adventurers to their door. As such, Marla often uses disguise self in public, making sure that she enjoys her unlife but does so without revealing her true self. Deep down, she has deeply conflicting emotions for Adraes. On the one hand, a part of her still loves the elf. On the other hand, she feels betrayed by his inability to save her and seeks revenge. She does hope to meet Adraes again, but is unsure as to what she will do when she finds him.
