Common Ground Student-Run Educational Farm
The spring consisted of Ryan Rich and Manuel Garay (both PSS) writing a proposal for an independent study credit outlining how to get a student farm up and running. Dr. Lorraine Berkett, the PSS department chair passed the proposal.
With the help of Greg Eurich, the Hort Farm manager and the generosity of financial donations from the PSS department, the farm was started. The club members focused solely on the student run-farm. The first season included Jen Cirillo, Jeff Nissman, and Lori Porciello. They grew vegetable s and received credit for writing a 65-paged farm manual. They even presented the farm to high school students and teachers from Agro ecology Institute as an example of hands-on learning. Vegetables and herbs were mainly donated to food-shelves or used for personal use. It was overall a year of learning experiences.
