Professional Education

ROPAThe College of Education & Social Services' professional education programs are approved by the State of Vermont. Vermont’s ROPA (Results Oriented Program Approval) process is a performance-based approach to the review of educator preparation programs. The Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators (VSBPE) oversees the ROPA approval process and determines program approval status. The VSBPE has approved CESS educator preparation programs until 2017.

NCATEIn addition to State program approval processes, the college's Educator Preparation Unit has been continuously accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) since 1954.  And the University of Vermont's programs are the only nationally accredited educator preparation programs in Vermont.

The college's most recent on-site visit was conducted March 2010 with the review team reporting UVM met all six NCATE institutional standards. In October 2010 NCATE's Unit Accreditation Board voted to accredit UVM's professional education unit without qualifications. The next NCATE review is scheduled for 2016-2017.

Counseling

CACREPThe counseling programs (School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling) are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP's most recent onsite visit occurred in March 2012. In July 2012, the CACREP Board of Directors reviewed the program's self-study, the on-site visitation team report, and all related correspondence, and voted to accredit the School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs.

Social Work

CSWEThe Social Work BSW and MSW programs in the CESS are accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE). The most recent on-site visit occurred in February of 2011. Following review of the Department of Social Works' self-study, onsite Visiting Team Report, and related materials, CSWE's Council on Accreditation voted to accredit the programs through 2019. The next review year is scheduled for 2018-2019.
