On behalf of the faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) at University of Vermont (UVM), welcome to our web site!
As our society moves toward a more efficient mode of existence one that is less polluting, more sustainable, lower impact, more healthful, and more secure the opportunities for graduates of CEMS will be essentially limitless.
Now is an excellent time to undertake undergraduate or graduate study in engineering, computer science, mathematics and statistics the core areas that make up CEMS. The global challenges faced by humankind need innovative solutions which will likely include novel and creative uses of existing technology, development of new technology and knowledge, as well as sophisticated mathematical and statistical modeling of information. Challenges such as clean and sustainable energy, efficient transport, security (including information security), clean water resources, health care, environmental protection, and economic stability represent major concerns worldwide. Engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists and statisticians will undoubtedly play major roles in addressing these challenges.
CEMS faculty are committed to providing a holistic undergraduate experience with an emphasis on interrelated fields of study, critical for training future professionals in engineering and the mathematical sciences. Modern challenges will be addressed by innovative systems that combine technologies from a variety of fields. Our overarching goal is to provide an educational experience that develops a strong level of expertise in one or more of the core CEMS areas while also training our students to work in highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary environments.
I invite you to peruse our web pages and see for yourself the exciting opportunities that provide the potential for making positive differences in our world!
