Board Members

Dr. James LosseJames Losse

Dr. James Losse was named Vice President of Engineering at General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products in Burlington, Vermont, in January 2006. His responsibilities as Vice President include technology development, technical leadership, and management of centralized core resources, as well as direct responsibility for gun development programs. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Losse was senior director of technology and design. Assuming this position in 2002, Dr. Losse was responsible for the development of advanced technologies and engineering for the company, as well as design and analysis of products.

Dr. Losse served as vice president and general manager for the Marion Composites Division of Advanced Technical Products, Inc. located in Marion, Virginia, from 1999 to 2002. In this role, radome/composites programs and engineering, plant marketing, purchasing, materials and production planning and MIS departments reported directly to him. Dr. Losse also served as the vice president of business and technology development from 1997 to 1999. After serving in various product and program management roles, he was named VP of composites programs in 1995. In that position, he was responsible for all aspects of the commercial and military composites structures product line including product technical performance, bids and proposals, management of the program and technical staff, as well as product manufacturing.

From 1985 to 1989, Dr. Losse was the senior product manager of Brunswick Corporation's signature technology program at the Advanced Materials Technology Center in San Diego. This business unit focused on low observable applications in materials, as well as retrofit and new designs for land, sea and air vehicles. In 1983, Dr. Losse joined General Dynamics Convair Division and worked in radar cross-section design, test, and analysis in support of major development and production.

Dr. Losse received BA degrees with highest honors in Mathematics and Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and was awarded a PhD in Physics from Iowa State University.

Dr. Losse has been an active member of his community. In addition to the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Board of Advisors, he currently serves the Greater Burlington Industrial Council, Vermont Business Roundtable, Vermont Technology Council, United Way of Chittenden County, and as Troop Committee Chairman, Boy Scouts of America.
