Tri Minh Tran, graduate student in computer science in the UVM College of
Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS), received one of seven "Best
Paper" awards during the Second
International Conference on Digital Telecommunications (ICDT) 2007 held
July 1-6 in Silicon Valley.
Tran's paper, "Why Not Semijoins for Streams, When Distributed?," co-authored with Byung Suk Lee and Matthew W. Bovee, investigates methods for processing joins using sliding windows over distributed data streams. The paper focuses on query optimization techniques by adopting the notion of the semijoin a powerful tool used in distributed database query optimization into a distributed data stream environment.
