About the Cat's Meow

The Cat's Meow is the only all-female a cappella group at UVM, founded* in 1981 by Jennifer Orr.

Who We Are: Thirteen girls who love to sing! We have singers from all kinds of majors and from every year. What we have in common: dedicating (at least) 6 hours a week to a practice room.

Where We Are: The University of Vermont (www.uvm.edu) is located (on a hill) in Burlington, Vermont. It was founded in 1791 and is the fifth oldest university in New England. Although VT is the postal abbreviation for Vermont, the University is called UVM for Universitas Viridis Montis, Latin for "University of the Green Mountains."
Though Vermont is a small state, we seem to have managed to attract some international fans.

What We Sing: In the a cappella community, our genre is called "contemporary" (as opposed to, say, "barbershop" or "jazz"). Our repertoire consists of pop, folk, the 80s, and a few oldies, in variations of SSAA arrangements. About half of the arrangements we sing are written by Cat's Meow members. See the repertoire page for the current song list (including credits for original arrangements) or browse our archive of setlists!
