Welcome to CATMA's Bike/Walk Program

Connecting You With Transportation Choices
Do I Qualify?
For those of you who live close enough to bike or walk to and from work, CATMA, along with your employer, offers a great incentive to encourage you to give biking and/or walking a try! All Employees, Faculty and Staff of the CATMA member Institutions; the American Red Cross, Champlain College, Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University of Vermont, receiving salary and who are eligible for employer-paid benefits and commute to the Hill, can register to participate in our Bike/Walk Reward Program.
How Does the Program Work?
The program requires you to walk and/or bike to and from work at one of the following locations: the Fletcher Allen Health Care ACC Medical Center Campus, UHC Campus, One Burlington Square, UVM Main Campus, Champlain College or the American Red Cross Blood Donor Center at least three days each week for two 4-week periods. The dates within each 4-week block MUST be consecutive, however, the first week of your second 4-week block doesn't have to directly follow the last week of the first 4-week block.
If you are out of work for three or more days in one week due to vacation, illness or off-site training and conferences, then you must record that week and the reason on the "week(s) out" line on the Bike/Walk Reward Card. You still need to complete a total of 8 weeks of biking and/or walking however, under the above circumstances, your weeks do not have to be consecutive.
You must register for CATMA's RidesWork program as an alternate commuter indicating that you want to join the CATMA Bike/Walk Rewards Program. Click here to get to the online registration form. We'll process your registration and send you a Welcome Packet. In it, you will find a Bike/Walk Reward Card on which you'll record your Bike/Walk dates. When you have completed the two four-week blocks, return the card to the CATMA office to redeem your reward. All requested information on the Bike/Walk Reward Card, including your signature, MUST be filled out completely for your card to be processed.
What are the Incentives?
Choose Your Reward
Every time you complete two 4-week blocks on your card you are eligible for a reward of your choice. You simply check which reward you would like to receive on your Bike/Walk Reward Card. Each reward is valued at $15.00. You can choose either a gift card for Borders Bookstore, City Market, Merrill's Roxy Cinema or Skirack.
Emergency Ride Home
When you register in the Bike/Walk program, we'll also register you into the Emergency Ride Home Program and send you a Commute Smart Card. This is the best insurance policy you'll ever own! The ERH Program guarantees you a FREE taxi cab ride home in an emergency - including a breakdown of your bike on any day you bike/walk to work! You can use this free ride, which covers up to $60/ride, up to 2x/month or a total of 8 times in a twelve month period. Your Commute Smart Card, with instruction for using the Emergency Ride Home will be included in your Bike/Walk Welcome packet.
Restaurant Gift Certificates
Everyone registered in the Bike/Walk Program, along with those registered using other alternate commute modes, is automatically entered into monthly drawings for gift certificates to local restaurants. Each month, four winners are chose in the Alternate Commuters drawing. The first two chosen receive a $15.00 gift certificate and the other two receive a $10.00 gift certficate to a local restaurant.
Area Bike and Walking Maps
We'll provide you with both an area bike and walking map. CATMA partnered with several local organizations, including the Burlington Bike Council, to produce an area Bicycle Map. The map covers Burlington, South Burlington, and parts of Colchester and Winooski. The map is designed to assist bicyclists and pedestrians to navigate the safest, most comfortable route to their destinations. It includes information on mass transit, recreational areas, environmental sites and general points of interest. BlueCross BlueShield of Vermont has produced a Burlington Walks map, which contains over a dozen different walks with a brief description of each walk's route and historical and natural points of interest.
