| The Okavango Swamp is a surprisingly wet oasis in an
otherwise very dry, and arid region. The Kalahari Deset lies
to
the southwest and the Makgadikgadi Pan lies to the north..
The
Makgadikgadi Pan is a large salt pan that has resulted because of the
high rate of evaportation that occurs. Even when all other
regions in southern Africa are parched and desparate for water, the
Okavango Swamp is inundadted and flooded with waters from the Kuvango
River, in Angola, creating a vast inland lagoon broken up by islands
and channelled through beds of perennial waterways. |
