Principles

Examinations
There are three TUESDAY "Trimester Exams" (Sept 30, Oct 28, Nov 25)
(NOTE THESE DATES ARE CHANGED FROM THE FIRST SYLLABUS LISTING), and a Final
Exam on Dec 19. The weighting of these exams is described on the CourseInfo
page. Results of each exam will be posted here, as they are obtained.
The First Trimester Exam will consist of questions
drawn from:
- Material discussed in lecture will be emphasized
- Problems related to those you solved (listed at the end of each set of lecture
notes); may have discussed these in recitation
- Topics that you were directed in lecture to read on your own (from the text)
The types of problems on the exam to expect:
- Short essay-style questions. Brevity is encouraged; focus on presenting
the important parts of your answer, as grading will be based on content rather
than style
- Sketches of biological principles or experiments, such as those discussed
in lecture
- Multiple choice, where there may be one or more choices that are correct
- The approximate weighting for these types of problems will be 65%, 25%,
10%, respectively
- There are not "Sample "Problems" to review, but you can get
a sense of the type of problems from those assigned for each lecture.
You will have up to 75 minutes to complete the exam.
Make-up exams will not be offered. If you have a UVM-sanctioned reason for
not taking an exam when it is scheduled, you must talk to an instructor at least
four days prior to the exam. In such cases an exam may be given a day early.
