ALANA GEAR

ALANA GEAR is a cutting edge collaboration between Outdoor Programs, the Outing Club, and the ALANA Student Center. It is an incredible program that is one of a kind in the country! It has been featured in several regional, national, and international conferences on experiential education.

ALANA GEAR is an instructional program for ALANA (African, Latin@, Asian, Native American) students interested in gaining outdoor experience in a group setting that is supportive and does not assume any prior knowledge or experience. The focus is on building wilderness and leadership skills, team building, positive group dynamics, and FUN!

GEAR will not only assure comprehension of basic outdoor skills, but will familiarize students with the operations and procedures of the Outing Club. The aim is to continue to strengthen the bridge between the ALANA and Outing Club communities. This program can be a first step to becoming an active Outing Club participant or leader.

The value to the participants is huge. You receive the equivalent of thousands of dollars in training, equipment rentals, transportation, food and other goodies. At the end of the program, if you fulfilled all the program requirements, you will also recieve a certificate of completion.
