Presidential Commissions
President's Commission on Diversity & Inclusion:
The mission of the President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion
is to make recommendations to the President, acting as a catalyst and advocate
in furthering the University’s goal of creating a community of mutual
engagement for all identity groups. There are multitudes of ways in which we
may differ: age, economic class, religion, linguistic history, national origin,
physical abilities, and social background, to name a few. The goal of the University
is to engage all identity groups to be full members of the campus community.

The mission of the President’s Commission on Racial Diversity is to make
recommendations to the President, acting as a catalyst and advocate in diversifying
and strengthening UVM to be a national model for how racial and ethnic equity
can be achieved in a university context. Racial and ethnic diversity contributes
to a broader learning environment and stronger campus community for all members

The mission of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women is to
make recommendations to the President, acting as a catalyst and advocate in
enhancing the institutional voice of, and ensuring an environment of equity
for, all women at UVM. The full participation of all women within a supportive,
safe, and affirming campus community enriches and strengthens the University.

The mission of the President’s Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual &
Transgender Equity is to make recommendations to the President, acting as a
catalyst and advocate in ensuring equity for members of the LGBTQA community,
and addressing sexual orientation and gender identity issues throughout the
University. Ensuring a safe, positive, fully engaging university experience
for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, faculty and staff enriches

The mission of the President’s Commission on Social Change is to make recommendations
to the President, acting as a catalyst and advocate in addressing key challenges
facing the health and safety of UVM’s campus community. Challenges such
as bias, gender-based and sexual violence, and the abuse of alcohol and drugs,
impede the University’s goal of academic excellence in an inclusive, welcoming
and safe campus community.
