Travel Awards

Travel Awards provide on average $500 for domestic or $1000 for international conference travel expenses (planes, trains, and automobiles; food and lodging) to help students cover the expenses associated with traveling to present their own research. Students may use the funds to cover the costs related to performance, presentation, or exhibiting results of research and scholarly activity (i.e., conference presentation, performance at a juried event, etc.).

Students may not receive funds for charges incurred for UVM courses, study abroad experiences, or to travel to countries under a US Department of State warning. If your travel relates to the completion of research, you should fill out the Mini Grant (MG) application. If you are looking for funding merely to attend a conference, this is professional development and is not funded by OUR.

Applications reviewed on a rolling basis and awards are made until funds are exhausted; review of applications will take no more than three weeks, so plan accordingly. Students MUST be ready to travel when making application (your paper must be accepted to the conference; any international travel must be registered using OIE's iAbroad system -contact OUR for more information). You must attach the notice from the conference organizers stating that your work has already been accepted for presentation.

Students may receive no more than two (any combination of Mini and Travel) in any given academic year.

We strongly advise you to attend a funding workshop.
