Network Service Charges
Network Services Billing
Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) and Network Services are happy to share changes that are being made to the network budget. The new approach to centralizing fund collection for this core service across campus will help ensure annual dollars are set aside to address deferred maintenance and continuing efforts to enhance and expand our university wireless.
Service Requests
- There will be no charge to activate / deactivate an existing data jack or to disconnect a phone. Simply submit a work order through VeraSMART.
- Network Services will not be sending monthly phone bills starting in FY26. A listing of all the active extensions in your department with their locations will be emailed to a specified person / persons monthly. You will also see any service charges that were made due to tickets submitted through VeraSMART. To add a person to the email list please email us at telreq@uvm.edu
- Adding, moving or changing (MAC) a personnel location or a VoIP phone will be a flat fee of $90.00. All questions concerning the backup documentation needed for MACs should be emailed to telrerq@uvm.edu. Sending emails to personal UVM email addresses will slow down the response time as personal UVM email addresses cannot be reviewed by all personnel.
- Any service request that requires infrastructure improvements as well as Special and Ad-Hoc Service Requests will be billed at $80.00/hr for time and the cost of the materials needed to complete the request. (i.e. needing a data jack in a location that does not already have one.)
Special and Ad-hoc Service Requests
- Special requests will be considered on an 'as time permits’ basis and evaluated against other projects on a planned list. Ad-hoc requests will be prioritized based on the direct impact on Teaching and Learning / Research
- Cost and effort will impact the decision. Cost Considerations will be made based on the budget and what will be charged back to the requesting unit. Effort Considerations will be made based on the current workload vs. the amount of work needing to be done.
- If work is needed in a general-purpose classroom, central funds will be evaluated as to whether they can cover expenses. Other academic spaces may have costs that will need to be borne by the owning department.
Long Distance Code Change
Starting July 1, 2025 Cisco VOIP/Jabber users will no longer need to use long distance codes from their UVM designated phone numbers for calls made within the United States. Nortel phone users are still required to use their assigned long-distance code per usual. Public phones, such as those available for safety reasons and/or not assigned to an individual or department, will be for local calling only. The dialing sequence will remain the same just no code will be needed at the end of the numbers. All International Calls will still need a Long Distance Code.
Long Distance Calling Sequence: 80-1-area code-xxx-xxxx
International Calling Sequence: 80 + 011 + country code + city code + phone number, at beeps enter code then #
