Brick store & Post Office
Historic
Modern
An early view of two signature buildings in downtown Shelburne. The store on the left is still present, but the brick post office to the right was eventually moved to Shelburne Museum and replaced by a Mobil gas station. This view also clearly documents the changes to the Falls Rd/Harbor Rd/Rt 7 intersection. Historically Falls Rd (foreground) entered Rt 7 twice, splitting around a grassy oval curbed with granite. As cars and traffice became a more prominent concern, this intersection was altered so that Falls Rd curved sharply before meeting Rt 7 at a 90-degree angle, across from Harbor Rd. The "grassy oval" became integrated into a larger town green stretching back to the Pierson library building.
