Many funded and unfunded undergraduate research opportunities exist at UVM through specific initiatives as well as through curricular requirements.
Undergraduate research programs offer intensive seminars and the opportunity to work closely with a faculty scientist on individually designed research projects. Students selected to participate in research programs may receive up to $500 for expenses and supplies during the academic year; more is available during the summer. Research projects focus on everything from sharp-shinned hawks to genetic algorithms. Learn more on the undergraduate research website.
The URECA! program gives students in-depth research experience. Through first submitting a project proposal for review by a panel of experts, URECA! candidates learn about the challenges of obtaining research funding. Students whose projects are selected receive research funding and guidance from a faculty mentor, in addition to opportunities for publishing and/or presenting their findings. Learn more from the URECA! website.
McNair Scholars program is a competitive summer opportunity open to ten students per year who are active participants in the McNair Scholars Program; it involves a research internship and a generous stipend. Learn more about eligibility and research opportunities on the McNair Scholars Program website.
We would do the individual colleges a disservice to attempt to summarize in one page all of the amazing research going on among their faculty and students. Suffice it to say, faculty members in UVM colleges are performing innovative research, and they are involving undergraduate students in their ventures.
