The goal of a good social studies teacher is to bring geography, history, government, and sociology alive -- to help students find meaning about the world and to encourage them to participate actively in its evolution. Greg Lewis is a high school teacher who strives to achieve this goal. Meet Greg Greg Lewis came to Vermont in 1995 from Bergen County, New Jersey. He grew up in a family of teachers and knew he too would some day teach. Greg's high school history teacher inspired Greg to become a social studies teacher. Greg remembers this teacher as someone who made a lot of dry content and facts exciting and interesting, an attribute he hopes to claim as well. After high school, Greg attended the University of Vermont and graduated with a B.S. in Secondary Education as a broadfield history major. His student teaching was supervised by Mr. Norman Bohn in the South Burlington High School Social Studies Department. Following his student teaching internship, he was hired by SBHS as the Technology Learning Center Coordinator. Greg worked at the University of Vermont as a graduate assistant for the College of Education and Social Services Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to use Technology (PT3 grant). He completed the Educational Leadership masters program at UVM in 2003 where he focused on technology in education. He also taught Cisco Systems Computer Networking Academy Greg currently teaches US History, Psychology, African American History, and Special Topics Using Computers at SBHS. Outside of school he enjoys catch and release fly-fishing, wildlife and landscape photography, listening to jazz, hiking, and playing guitar.
