As Mary Lou worked to stay in regular contact with her students she found herself writing a lot of emails. Sometimes, she was writing the same email again and again to a number of students. She started to see how some of the things that were being communicated could be included on a web site--a central place where all her students could go to get information about the course. Since she only saw the students a couple of times a week, but needed to let them know about things more frequently than that, she felt she needed a place for announcements and other happenings.
"I'd been using WebCT for a while, just because I became interested in it. I wasn't sure what to use it for," reports Mary Lou. Initially, her use of it started out "not looking much different than web pages," but knew Mary Lou knew that it would evolve. Just as her work with students is always evolving, indeed her use of WebCT has also evolved. What started out as a place to simpy post a few pieces of information has grown into a real collaborative exchange among students.
