Lynn's use of digital video tools in her teaching harken back to the days when she was a student and the teacher would use "film loops"--moving pictures that students would watch over and over to get an understanding of a particular concept or skill. Because P.E. is very visual, she felt this technology was an appropriate one to integrate into her courses in the Professional Physical Education program. And the 21st Century version of "film loops" that she and her students are using--iMovie technology from Apple--allows for so much more to be done than those old film loops.
Which technology Lynn used, though, may not have been as important as the fact that she felt she had to use technology, period. Because a central objective in Lynn's teaching is that students be able to project the value of P.E. as integral to the academic and overall development of students--that it's not just another "special"--it was important to her that she find ways to help students learn to use technology in their P.E. teaching.
Using iMovie turned out to be an effective way to not only help students visualize the development of skills as a way to enhance their teaching, it also proved to be a great way to have students demonstrate the professional nature of their work.
